Tejumade Afonja is the co-founder of AISaturdaysLagos, an artificial intelligence community that offers free classes on data science, machine learning, and deep learning for Nigerian youth. She has over 4 years of experience in community organizing, teaching, and volunteering in the field of ML. She is the principal investigator for the SautiProject, developed as part of AISaturdaysLagos, which involves the collection, cleaning, classification, and translation of accented datasets. Her work was presented at BIA and the AI in Africa 2021 workshop. Tejumade is a 2020 Google Generation Scholar (previously Women Techmakers Scholar) and a 2022 CMU DataScience for Social Good (DSSG) Fellow. She is also a co-organizer of the Mechanism Design for Social Good (MD4SG) working group and the NeurIPS Machine Learning for the Developing World (ML4D) workshop. She is associated with several other workshops such as BIA, WIML, ICLR, Deep Learning Indaba (DLI), AI4D, and DSA where she occasionally volunteers, mentors or serves as a PC. 2022 Climate and Health Technical Advisory Panel
We establish an independent Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) for each Request for Proposals (RFP). TAP members bring strong technical and domain knowledge, and are responsible for identifying data gaps, refining RFPs, and reviewing and selecting proposals for funding. They also outline insights from the funding process and make recommendations for future funding considerations.

Dr. Gichoya is a multidisciplinary researcher, trained as both an informatician and a clinically active radiologist. She is an assistant professor at Emory university, and works in Interventional Radiology and Informatics. She is seconded to the National Institutes of Health as a data scholar to help with the Open Data Science Platform (OSDP) component of the DSI Africa Initiative to “Harness Data Science for Health In Africa”. Her career focus is on validating machine learning models for health in real clinical settings, exploring explainability, fairness, and a specific focus on how algorithms fail. She has worked on the curation of datasets for the SIIM (Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine) hackathon and ML committee. She volunteers on the ACR and RSNA machine learning committees to support the AI ecosystem to advance development and use of AI in medicine.

Jeff Stanaway, PhD, MPH, is Assistant Professor at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. He is part of the research team for the landmark Global Burden of Disease study. In this role, he models morbidity and mortality from enteric diseases and environmental risk factors. His research focuses on macro-epidemiology with a special interest in understanding connections between the physical environment (e.g., climate and land cover) and the spatiotemporal distribution of disease. Dr. Stanaway received his PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Washington and his MPH from the University of Arizona.

Daniel A. Rodriguez examines the reciprocal relationship between mobility and land development, and the health and environmental consequences that follow. Working with colleagues in multiple disciplines he has studied how changes to the physical attributes of urban environments – the location of rail lines, trails, and neighborhood land uses– results in changes in individual behavior, health, and air quality. His work also examines how cities can encourage development that is healthier and affordable.

Damazo Kadengye (PhD) is an Applied Biostatistician and Public Health Research Scientist interested in making effective use of data and data systems to enhance evidence-informed policymaking. He serves as the Head of Data Science and Evaluation at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), Nairobi, Kenya. Previously, Damazo served as a Senior Lecturer of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Uganda, and as an Epidemiologist with U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Kampala.

Alvaro Soto received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University in 2002, with a specialization in cognitive robotics. Afterward, he joined the Computer Science Department at Universidad Catolica de Chile (UC), where he is currently an Associate Professor. At UC, he leads the Artificial Intelligence Lab (ialab), a leading research group dedicated to AI in Latin America. He also leads the National Center for Artificial Intelligence (CENIA) which is funded by the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research. He is also one of the cofounders of Zippedi, an AI-based company dedicated to creating robots for the retail industry that is operating dozens of robots in several countries. In terms of his main line of research, Dr. Soto focuses on developing new theories and applications related to the creation of cognitive machines.
